Why is "indict" pronounced like that? The word used to be "endite" until Renaissance English Humanists changed the spelling to be closer to the word's Latin root, "indictare" (as they liked to do). Same reason "debt" & "receipt" are spelled like they are. nancyfriedman.typepad.com/away_with_word…
